It would seem that a game that came out more than 10 years ago should have lost popularity among players by now. However, a GSD&GfK report suggests that sales of older games have grown significantly in Europe in August 2024. You can read more about everything in our article.
- 11.8 million PC and console games were sold in Europe in August. This is 7% more than in August 2023.
- Grand Theft Auto V is the month's best-selling game, with its sales growing by 5.7% year-over-year (YoY). In second place is Star Wars: Outlaws. The game's sales are disappointing, selling only half as many copies in its first week as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor did in the same period in 2023. However, sales are higher than Star Wars: Squadrons. Nevertheless, interestingly enough, the fact that the novelty is just crushingly losing to GTA 5, which was first released back in 2013.
- Black Myth is in 68th place. This fact can be justified by the fact that digital copies were not taken into account in this report. In addition, the game's sales were rather weak on the European market.
- What remains interesting is that of the top 10 best selling games, there are still 8 that were released more than 1 year ago. For example, Kingdom Come, which was released in 2018, remains in the top. Or Red Dead Redemption 2, which came out a year later. Such indicators are explained by good discounts on most of the older games, as well as the interest of players in higher quality, ‘time-tested’ games that are guaranteed not to disappoint players.
- More than 300,000 consoles were sold in Europe in August 2024. This is 42% less than in August 2023, but 12% better than July 2024. In monetary terms, sales dropped 29% compared to last year.
- The PlayStation 5 holds first place by a large margin, despite a 50% YoY sales decline.
