Analyst platform Sensor Tower has published a report on the mobile app market for Q2 2024, highlighting key findings related to gaming. During this period, gamers around the world spent $19.7 billion on mobile games, up 4% year-on-year. However, mobile game downloads fell 6.4% to 12.6bn, reaching the lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the first time since 2017, the top revenue leader was not the RPG genre, but strategy, with total quarterly revenue of $4.15 billion (+12%). The RPG genre dropped to second place with revenue of $4.14 billion (-15%), while puzzle games took third place with revenue of $2.89 billion (+12%).

In terms of downloads, the top 3 genres were arcades (2.19 billion downloads, -16%), puzzles (1.7 billion downloads, -10%) and simulations (1.48 billion downloads, +3%). The highest-grossing game, as in the previous quarter, was MONOPOLY GO! Dungeon & Fighter Mobile was also in the top 10 in terms of revenue, and thanks to its release in China it moved up 421 points in the ranking. The first place among the most downloaded games was again taken by Garena Free Fire.
